This page contains information about project partners.

The know-how required to fulfil the objectives successfully exists in the project consortium. The industrial partner, Alliance Tire Company, is responsible for the die design and set-up of extrusion lines. Apex Technologies, simulation consultancy expert, participates in the definition of industrial test cases, dissemination activities and project co-ordination. Polyflow SA, the software provider,  participates in simulation and dissemination tasks. Technion, as a HPCN and computational mechanics expert,  contributes to the simulation task by analysing the numerical aspects (convergence) and HPCN aspects ( parallelization, scalability), and as a teaching institution will participate in the dissemination activities. Technion  also provides the consortium access to its HPCN computer platforms.

In consulting projects involving fluid mechanics, the POLYFLOW FE code is used by Apex Technologies to simulate manufacturing processes such as rubber and polymer extrusion. Most of the consultancy projects include die geometry and process parameter optimisation. Apex Technologies is involved in a close collaboration with the Research Centre of Hutchinson, which is a French industrial company producing rubber components for the automotive, aerospace, construction and consumer products industries and one of Europe's leaders in the transformation of industrial rubber. The commitment of Apex Technologies to develop expertise in the die design area is also confirmed by its participation in ESOP project. In this project, Apex Technologies contributes its expertise in realistic industrial simulations of extrusion process to the development of die optimisation techniques using POLYFLOW code.

Alliance Tire Company is the sole tire manufacturer in the State of Israel. The company was established in 1950, using the know-how from Dayton. Now it is ranked among the 50 largest tire companies in the world, with a 1995 annual turnover amounted to 100 MECU, of which ¾ is for export. The company employs about 1000 people in two locations, and sells its tires to the domestic market and exports them to 55 countries. The main export markets are Germany, Britain, France, Italy and USA. The major exported tire groups are: agricultural, industrial and earthmovers. Alliance makes efforts to supply a wide variety of quality tires at competitive prices with efficient and fast service. In 1996 the company received the ISO-9002 certification. All Alliance passenger tires are high performance tires, standing to the high European velocity test levels. High quality grades were also obtained when the tires were tested in USA for the U.T.Q.G. (Uniform Tire Quality Grading) according to the Department of Transportation regulations. Alliance is in process of changing to radial tires and increasing its production capacity.  Special effort is devoted to development of new modern tires. The company introduces about 30 new tires every year.

Founded in 1988, Polyflow S.A. is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, and currently employs 17 employees, among which seven doctors in engineering. The company is active in the field of numerical simulation of viscous and viscoelastic flows, in order to study and improve relevant industrial processes. A major portion of the company's budget is devoted to research and development, and Polyflow S.A. maintains close relationships with the Department of Applied Mechanics of the University of Louvain to ensure a quick technology transfer from research to industry. Polyflow S.A. develops and commercialises the POLYFLOW Finite Element package, and performs in-house consultancy projects. The POLYFLOW code provides advanced tools for the simulation of the extrusion process. It is the only commercial code to provide its users with full viscoelastic flow capability for fluids of the differential and of the integral types and is used by over 75 corporate research centres and 55 universities throughout the world, and is licensed to major resin suppliers and transformers in Europe and around the world. The code was successfully ported to parallel platforms in the framework of EUROPORT project.
