ANSWER
Affordable numerical simulation in Windows NT Environment

Small and medium engineering companies face big design problems, but they can not always allocate a lot of resources for their solution. Finite element simulation becomes a real necessity, if the highly competitive demands for innovative products are to be meet in a short time. It is often imposed by the clients to be included as an integral part of the design process. The situation is especially critical when non-linear structural analyses of large models are required. Currently, conventional computers available in SME's are not adequate to solve these problems, and the high-end hardware is too expensive.

In the ANSWER project, domain decomposition  methodology will be used to create a modern parallel version of a non-linear FE code which will be operational and efficient on a network of PC's - the most affordable HPCN hardware platforms. Three concrete objectives will be addressed: creation of a modern PC version of a parallel non-linear structural code, demonstration and validation of the technology in industrial environment, disseminating the results to relevant industry. The dissimination  will be co-ordinated by the HPCN network of technology transfer nodes .

ANSWER is a project conducted in the framework of HPCN PST activities of the European Commision Esprit program.
